About Little Cuttlefish on Kangaroo Island

Nature's private paradise retreat - Little Cuttlefish is your truly exceptional, eco-friendly, bespoke luxury holiday home, with unsurpassed, breathtaking vistas overlooking the vast blue waters of Backstairs Passage to mainland Australia. This superb two bedroom home will exceed your expectations. With uninterrupted stunning ocean views from every room, this unique cliff-edge rammed earth architectural masterpiece envelops you on arrival. What are you waiting for? Come and be our guest in this exclusive, supremely private immersive nature escape, where two oversized ensuite king rooms await you. Thank you for choosing a guilt free restorative retreat which epitomises fully off-grid sustainable barefoot luxury. With a solar system equipped with 50kW of batteries and 100 000L of rainwater harvesting for home use and dam water for outdoor use, and a plentiful supply of chopped wood from our very own sustainable wood lot for all your heating needs, you might be surprised and inspired at how easy it is to embrace off-grid living! A million miles from the worries of the world, yet only 15 minutes to the Kangaroo Island Ferry, Penneshaw cafes, IGA and right next door to the iconic Dudley Wines. Explore nearby National Parks (Lashmar conservation Park is 5 minutes away!) with pristine beaches and all that KI has to offer. Or, once here, you might never want to leave Little Cuttlefish, soaking in the stunning 18 metre ocean facing pool, hiking to find your own picnic spot in the spectacular 135 acres with resident wildlife, discovering your own perfectly private lookouts - just allow the raw magic of Little Cuttlefish to transform and centre you back into Mother Nature's arms. To borrow the words of one of our previous guests, "There are some places where the real thing is even better than the photos - this is one of them! This hidden gem is sheer perfection!"

We hope that the eco-amenities of Little Cuttlefish suits you. Please feel free to open the sliding doors to invite the sea breezes in and use our portable fans to cool the house. In colder months, be sure to close these doors early so the sun heats the concrete slab as an adjunct to using the Nectre combustion wood fire for warmth. The Thermolux wood fired oven cooks your food country style and heats the hydronic heating in the slab. (Conventional electric cooking appliances and Webber BBQ might be more convenient). There is no split system or reverse cycle air conditioning and no pool heating. Our pool is chemically clean but not sparkling like a hotel pool as we do not have mains water. We provide pool towels but not beach towels for taking off site. You can make as much noise as you like and stay up as late as you like - but remember that nature is bright early on and noisy (think birds and frogs!) so maybe bring your eye mask and ear plugs if you use these! Please do not vape or smoke on our property. This is nature in the raw and not curated for the safety of humans so please explore with responsible caution. Usual safety measures like pool fencing etc are in place but please be mindful that there are stairs, fireplaces, a balcony and the usual rural critters with which to contend! Unplug and plug into Nature to recharge!

    Cancellation

Meet Your Host, Sabrina & Geoff

We are very excited to be hosting our homes on Kangaroo Island in Penneshaw and on the Dudley Penninsula! Geoff's family has roots on the island and we have enjoyed spending time each year on KI. Little Cuttlefish is our offgrid barefoot luxury hideaway offering private cliffside seclusion right next door to Dudley's Wines. Our pet friendly family home, KI Blue, is in the heart of Penneshaw directly opposite Christmas Cove Marina. We hope you will enjoy our favourite island. Geoff and Sabrina
