Just a 5-minute walk from the CBD, the cottage offers easy access to cafes, galleries, and cafes. Carefully updated, a combination of historic charm and modern comfort has created a cosy and stylish retreat. Whether you're discovering local culture or unwinding in a peaceful setting, The Workers Cottages provide the perfect base for your Northern Tasmanian visit.

Located on Balfour Street, Oakden and Harpley, The Workers' Cottages, are nestled in the heart of Launceston’s vibrant food and arts district. Named after wooden vessels built in Launceston in the 1840s, the cottages are believed to have housed boatbuilders during that era. Over the past two years, renowned local architect Gillian Van Der Schans has led a full restoration, transforming the cottages into stylish retreats designed for short stays. With a blend of character and history, they offer visitors a charming, unique base for exploring Launceston.

Upon entering our cottage, guests are welcomed into a cosy and inviting living space, complete with custom-designed sofas and armchairs, ideal for unwinding and planning your time in Launceston.

Continuing from the living area, you'll find a fully-equipped kitchen, showcasing high-end appliances, sleek marble countertops, and sturdy timber cabinetry—creating a blend of contemporary and atmospheric charm. A selection of pantry essentials, including coffee pods, a variety of teas, hot chocolate, sugar, olive oil, salt, pepper, is provided for your convenience.

The kitchen and dining area seamlessly flows into a downstairs powder room, a sun-filled reading nook or workspace, and a spacious courtyard where guests can relax with their morning coffee or enjoy a leisurely evening meal.

Upstairs, the first floor offers two bedrooms, each featuring luxurious queen-sized beds. The main bathroom is designed with elegant floor-to-ceiling finger tiles for a modern touch and has a double vanity and walk in rain head shower. There is also a European laundry with front load AEG washer and drying space for guests to use throughout their stay.

Harpley cottage is perfectly set up for one or two couples to enjoy.

You’re welcome to park on the street. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
