Welcome to The Botanist's Retreat – a green, serene base for discovery in central Castlemaine. Our charming, centrally heated and cooled 3-bedroom cottage is located around the corner from The Botanical Gardens & The Mill. Perfect for couples, families, or friends, this well-equipped, stylish home is the ideal base for your getaway, just a short walk to markets, breweries, gardens, cafes, and more.

Originally built in the 1900s, this updated, single level cottage blends period charm with modern comfort. Inside, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen, spacious dining area, and cozy lounge with floorboards. Central heating and cooling keep you comfortable year-round, and the large bathroom features a walk-in shower and freestanding tub. Enjoy a drink from the cocktail bar cart, play vintage vinyl, or settle in with a book or board game.

Each of the three carpeted queen bedrooms has its own character, with comfy mattresses, block-out curtains, high-quality linens, and Egyptian cotton towels. A daybed is also available for a 7th guest (extra charge).

Step outside to a lovely front porch and a covered rear deck with BBQ and dining for six - perfect for relaxing outdoors. A sweet treat awaits you on arrival, along with coffee, tea, milk, pantry basics, and bathroom essentials.

You’ll be just a few minutes walk to The Mill and Botanical Gardens, and 15 minutes to downtown. The house is easy to find on the main road through town (Barker Street) so there’s some daytime road noise, but it’s peaceful at night. The train station is nearby (15 min walk), and we’re opposite the Castlemaine Arts Hotel and a Shell station for added convenience.

Self check-in is available with key code access. We have a 2-night minimum stay most of the year, and 3–4 nights during peak holiday periods.
